only now when im bored i can use observer mode, which is more useful than fishing.
BUT if the fishes could be used as weapons, then i would be all for this.

now that observer mode is out, if you get bored you can just watch some people play and watch some retards talk consistently for the whole battle

I haven't tried observer mode yet. It doesn't sound fun but I can't judge it until I try it.

at its current state, I think othe recreational activities other than killing monsters would be a good idea as a gold sink or time waster. However, Fishing is too over done. Thus I would like to see other activities, just not fishing....

An alternative of fishing.
Mini games for different profession.

Warrior - Beat your track records. (running)
Ranger - Try to interupt as much as you can with the skills you already have.
Elementalist - How many enemies can you kill.
Necro - How many minions can you raise and have it survive.
Mesmer - How much Energy you can steal.
Monk - How long can you keep an ally alive.

More can be added of course but just thought it would be fun and original.

It just started us on a slippery slope toward mining/fishing/whateverstupidthing.

This is not the kind of game that has stuff like that. In GW, you are in a World where everything is fighting. There is no place for stuff like this. And besides, of all the skills in the world, why fishing? Its in every MMO.

This game is about War, not Fishing/Mining/Crafting.

Kind of funny how the PvP psychos always find and bring down the PvE threads and the PvE psychos find and bring down the PvP threads, yet somehow a PvP pyscho can't find a PvP thread and a PvE psycho can't find a PvE thread.

Yeah, I think fishing might be sort of fun. I'de say its just about as boring as the GvG observer mode. I mean, who wants to sit through a 45 minute battle of some guys who don't know how to ranger-spike vs some guys who are too afraid to come anywhere near the guys who can't pull off a ranger spike?

"its a world consumed by war!" they keep saying. Most of the time you are fighting bog scales and aaxtes and whatever kind of little animal. PvE isn't really about war at all, there are no guilds warring, the guild wars ended.

PvE is about a bunch of people trying to hunt down monsters and fight and farm and stuff. Sam in Lord of The Rings fished and they were being hunted by giant shadowy undead guys riding horses :P

i agree to this statement. GUILD WARS= WAR. if you want things like fishing. and farming, and mining and what not. go spend hours chopping wood on runescape. Dont ask for something that has no link to the game. to be put into the game

The third chapter is not just more PvP arenas, but also a new set of PvE areas and missions. Peace PvP'ers! GW is also PvE, and long term, it is the PvE side that keeps the monthly new game sales rolling in. And you have to keep the monthly new game sales rolling to keep revenues coming in, or the "free forever, no monthly fee" will come to a screeching halt. The business model is, new game sales pay our monthly fees. Read the fine print closely.

Fishing? I can see this working if it were not too time consuming, and if the benefits were limited to the PvE world, and in no way unbalanced the PvP side. Pretty easy to implement too, I think. Certain fish would be worth gold, others would give you a couple percent boost, others would be like the xp scrolls, there would be rare fish that eliminated the death penalty for a party, and there would be a chance of pulling out a box of something nice!

I play WOW too, with high level characters. I do not want to turn GW into WOW, with all of the tedium, hard work, and grinding of professions that goes on there. ANet doesn't either, we can be sure of that. But the third chapter might see some fun features added to the PvE, I hope fishing is one of them.

Maybe they would put in fishing and then you could fish out a rune of superior boot hooking or an ugrade compontent called hook of tire catching.
